We offer appointments to discuss contraceptive options. These appointments will be either with your GP or our women’s health nurse, Jan.
We also are able to fit coils for contraception or HRT.
If you choose to have a coil, once this has been discussed with the GP or nurse, we will then put you will be put on a waiting list for this procedure.
Once an appointment becomes available, a member of the surgery team will contact you to arrange two appointments in relation to your coil.
The first appointment is a telephone call with Nurse Jan to carry out ‘coil counselling’. In this telephone call the nurse will discuss the procedure with you and gives you guidance on what you need to do prior to your fitting appointment. This telephone call normally happens about 4 weeks before the date of your coil fitting.
The second appointment will be the date for the fitting of your coil. These clinics are usually held only once or twice a month, so please try to attend, If you need to cancel, please let us know as soon as possible so the surgery can re-arrange your appointment for you.
At your fitting appointment the nurse or GP will have another nurse helping them with the procedure.
Six weeks after your fitting you will need to come back to have one final check with a nurse to make sure everything is well with your coil and your are happy with it. This appointment will be booked for you once your device has been fitted.
We can also arrange appointments to remove coils with the practice nurse. If you would just like your coil removed please contact reception to arrange this. This usually takes about 20 minutes.
We are not able to offer contraceptive implants at the surgery. If you wish to have an implant, you will need to contacts local sexual health clinic. More information on these services can be found below.
