Patient group

We have an active patient participation group at our practice.

The Quarter Jack Surgery Patient Participation Group (PPG), commonly known as The Friends of the Practice, is essentially a number of people from a variety of backgrounds, who each bring something different to the group to support the practice. Its members are volunteer patients who work with the practices managers and clinicians to support and promote the best possible health care for all patients.

The following are just some of a number of areas that the PPG are involved with which you could get involved in:

Transport

We have a team of volunteers who may be able to help with transport to and from the surgery. We can also sometimes help with hospital transport if given enough notice. If you are having difficulty in attending appointments, please ask the surgery to pass on your details and we will contact you to offer any help available. We do not charge for this service but request a donation towards fuel costs. Are you able to offer driving services? You can be a driver without attending meetings – please complete the form below to find out more.

Fundraising

We hold occasional events such as coffee mornings and raffles to raise funds for much needed equipment. We have recently purchased the following for use in the surgery:

  • New patient health kiosk
  • Home BP monitoring machines

Do you have a flair for fundraising and could spare a little time to help us hold these events? Please complete the form below to find out more.

General Help

We are always looking for any help. In addition to the roles mentioned above there are many many tasks that need completing. These can be small or more in-depth tasks. These can be regular or ad-hoc. If you think you could assist in anyway, please complete the form below so we can get in contact to find out how.

PPG FAQ’s

Who are we?

We are volunteer patients who work with the managers and clinicians at The Quarter Jack Surgery to support and promote the best possible health care for all patients.

What do we do?

We act as the patients’ “voice” in seeking to influence the service which the GP Practice provides to the community. We will consult with the GP practice on the development and provision of community needs. We contribute to and are kept up to date with GP Practice decisions. It is a two-way communication with both the NHS Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and the practice to positively influence the provision of the health service in the locality.

Who can join the PPG?

Anyone that is registered with The Quarter Jack Surgery and is over the age of 18.

How will the practice be represented?

A minimum of one designated senior representative of the Practice Management team will attend all meetings. Other GP Practice staff including clinicians may attend depending on the requirements at the time.

How does the meeting work?

The PPG will select a chairperson to facilitate the meeting to ensure the group functions appropriately, there is full participation during the meeting, that all relevant matters are discussed and that effective decisions are made and carrier out.

A meeting agenda will be followed to make sure all topics of discussion are covered, and minutes of the meeting will be taken for future reference.

The members of the PPG maintain confidentiality and will always act in the best interest of patients free from bias or discrimination. No individual medical matters will be discussed. PPG members are committed to open, respectful and constructive discussions – meetings are not a forum for individual complaints or single issues.
