Telephone Advice

Sometimes problems can be solved over the telephone.   Our doctors and nurses are normally available at the end of morning surgery.   Our staff can arrange for your Doctor or a Nurse to telephone you.

Out of Hours Calls and Emergencies

Dorset Emergency Care Service offer  an emergency out-of-hours medical service when we are closed.  The service is for urgent medical situations, if you or a member of your family, become ill and you are concerned. When you ring the Dorset Emergency Care Service 0845 600 10 13 you will go through to the call centre in St.Leonard's, Dorset.  A trained member of staff will answer the phone and take some details from you.  They will pass your details straight over to a doctor who will ring you back to ask you more about the problem and, with you, will decide the best option for you.  If you feel you have a medical emergency please do not hesitate to dial 999.   Alternatively you may contact NHS Direct on 0845 46 47.

Training Practice

We are an approved training Practice and at times there may be a GP Registrar or a medical student in the surgery who will see you with your consent.  It is important to realise that Registrars, who are training in general practice, have been qualified for at least 4 years and are highly trained doctors.

Personal Lists

The doctors at The Quarter Jack Surgery have for many years run personal lists, which they believe is the best way of delivering health care.   This enables you to deliver a relationship with one doctor and not to see a different face each time.   As the relationship develops, confidence grows and with it trust.  This is crucial when managing personal and family problems.   However, the doctors may refer to another partner for an opinion from time to time, and usually most problems can be sorted out in the surgery setting, without the need to send you to a busy hospital.

Data Protection

When you register with the Practice your registration details are passed to Dorset Family Health Services Agency who will update their records accordingly and arrange for the transfer of your medical records from your previous doctor.   In addition, other parts of the National Health Service may have access to your personal information from time to time, for example if you are receiving hospital treatment the hospital will require details of your relevant medical history.

The GPs are medical officers for a local private school with an IT link to the Practice.   Please be assured that any staff that has access to your medical records has a professional duty of confidentiality and a strict contractual duty of confidentiality.

Private Patients

If you wish to be registered as a private patient please discuss this with a doctor.   It is practice policy that all patients are treated equally.

Temporary Residents

We welcome temporary residents.  If you are temporarily living in the area (for up to 3 months) you can apply to register as a temporary resident.   You will then be entitled to our full range of medical services.

Foreign Travellers

Foreign travellers may be treated as private patients.  Please enquire about the current fee scale for this.  The partners will be happy to provide a full range of medical services.

Victoria Hospital, Wimborne

There has always been a close liaison and the hospital remains a vital component in the delivery of health care services by the practice.  The day-to-day running of the hospital, from the medical viewpoint, is covered by The Quarter Jack Surgery.  Follow this link to take you to the Victoria Hospital Website for more information.  http://www.southandeastdorsetpct.nhs.uk/frames/default.asp

Access for the Disabled

The practice has taken care with the needs of the disabled, providing parking spaces, easy access and toilet facilities for the physically disabled.  We also have a hearing loop available at reception for those who are hard of hearing.  There is also a portable model that can be used in a consulting room.

Car Parking

Car parking availability has recently been increased, but please remember that some elderly disabled patients MUST use The Quarter Jack Surgery car park and therefore please use the public car parks nearby if you are able to.

It is VITAL that cars are NOT parked, however briefly, other than in the designated spaces - it potentially blocks access for emergency vehicles.

We are also close to local bus routes.

Baby Changing and Feeding Facilities

We provide facilities for you to feed and change your baby.

Smoking

The Quarter Jack Surgery operates a no smoking policy on the premises.

Equipment Fund

We run an equipment fund which has the sole use of buying items for the surgery to help our care of the patient.  Should anyone wish to donate or raise money please contact the Practice Manager.

Primary Care Trust

The practice is committed to working within the South and East Dorset PCT, liaising with local practices, nurses and members of the general public.
